PREVENTATIVE CARE FOR KITCHEN CABINETS
We all know the kitchen is probably one of the busiest and messiest spots in a home. And while there’s no doubt we all want a clean kitchen and focus heavily on the stove & countertops, kitchen cabinets take a brunt of the beating. Distinctive Cabinetry in conjunction with StarMark Cabinetry offer a few tips to help you clean and care for kitchen cabinets.
- Although many high-end kitchen cabinet manufacturers use the best material and techniques available, even the best finishes are not designed for repeated exposure to water. Therefore, you should always wipe up food and beverage spills immediately after they occur.
. - Do not wax your cabinets.
. - Do not use abrasive cleaners, powder cleaners or furniture cleaners that remove wax build-up as care for kitchen cabinets.
CLEANING TIPS AND CARE FOR KITCHEN CABINETS
Regardless of your cabinets material (Wood, Glass, Steel, etc.), the cleaning and care approach you should take is one of a gentle touch.
- Use a damp, clean, lint-free cloth that is free of loose fibers on the kitchen cabinet exteriors (Microfiber cloths work perfectly).
. - Don’t use a cloth you used on dishes or countertops. They may contain detergents, residue and fibers that could harm your kitchen cabinets.
. - If you feel a cleanser is necessary, use a mild, liquid, non-abrasive cleaner. Murphy’s Oil Soap is an excellent choice. Apply the cleanser to your cleaning cloth and move in small sections in a slow circular motion. Don’t apply the cleanser directly to the kitchen cabinet.
HOW TO REMOVE GREASE ON KITCHEN CABINETS
Regardless of your cabinets material (Wood, Glass, Steel, etc.), the cleaning and care approach you should take is one of a gentle touch.
Repeat Steps 1 & 2 above
- Mix a solution of equal parts with white household vinegar and water. This solution will not leave a residue on your kitchen cabinets. Dampen your cleaning cloth with this solution, do not apply the solution directly to the cabinet.
- Work in small areas so you can dry the kitchen cabinet immediately with a clean, lint-free cloth that is free of loose fibers.
HOW THE CLIMATE CAN EFFECT YOUR KITCHEN CABINETS
You should be aware that wood cabinetry installed in certain climates will take on or lose moisture, causing swelling or shrinkage of the certain components. Doors will swell in humid environments, especially, but not limited to, slab doors. Cabinetry installed in humid locations require an air conditioned environment to mitigate this issue.
On the flip side, drier locations, or places where humidity is low, a humidifier should be run to maintain a moderate moisture level in the environment.
We’re convinced that these tips will make care for kitchen cabinets a breeze.
